Simon Mall Barricade Graphics Requirements, Explained
Opening or remodeling a store in a Simon mall means building a construction barricade and, at most properties, covering it in approved graphics. Simon publishes its requirements property by property, so the details differ from mall to mall. Here is what the criteria commonly cover, in plain English, and how we help you meet them.
Rapid Retail Graphics is an independent vendor and is not affiliated with Simon Property Group. Requirements vary by property; always confirm against the current Tenant Info Package for your mall.

Simon posts criteria for each property on simon.com. Go to the Business section, search for the property and open its Tenant Info Package. If a package is unavailable, request the current version from your Simon tenant coordinator.
The package typically includes the tenant design manual, storefront and signage criteria, contractor rules and barricade specifications. Your tenant coordinator is the authority on anything unclear. Confirm which version applies to your lease before preparing artwork.
This guide summarizes common topics in our own words. It does not replace your property’s criteria or lease.
What Simon barricade criteria commonly require
- Commonly, written landlord approval of the barricade graphics before printing and installation.
- Commonly, full-color artwork submitted to the tenant coordinator or tenant manager for review.
- At many properties, graphics covering the entire barricade face rather than only selected panels.
- At some properties, a specific film type, such as full-color peel-and-stick graphics from a named manufacturer. Check the material specification before ordering.
- Commonly, no contractor names or contractor advertising on the barricade.
- At some properties, restrictions on message content, such as no tenant-supplied help-wanted signs.
- At some properties, a landlord-required contractor for the barricade structure itself. This is separate from the graphics scope.
For opening announcements, see coming-soon signage. Include only messages your landlord allows.
What the barricade structure usually involves
The tenant’s contractor typically builds the enclosure, often using painted plywood on studs with a dust cover. The barricade is set back from the lease line within the property’s limits so emergency exits and escape routes remain clear. The printed graphics go on that surface.
Confirm the structure, surface preparation and contractor responsibility with your tenant coordinator before the graphics survey. A requirement for a particular structure contractor does not automatically describe the rules for choosing a graphics vendor.
The terminology can differ between markets. Read barricade graphics vs. hoarding graphics for the same product’s US and Canadian names.

How we help you get approved
We read your mall’s Tenant Info Package with you, lay the artwork out to the barricade drawings and prepare the proof package for the tenant coordinator. We print to the film the criteria specify, including 3M films where required, and install in the mall’s approved access window. The landlord makes the approval decision.
Our barricade graphics service covers survey, design, print and install under one contract with one COI. Full-service graphics start from $6/sqft, with 1–5 business days from artwork approval. Review mall construction barricade graphics cost for what affects your quote.
We serve the United States and Canada. For Texas openings, see our Texas service locations.
